Self-Directed Learning Opportunity

As an assistant principal, I have spent the last 14 years supporting teachers through professional development, coaching, and instructional support. As I work toward transitioning from K–12 education into higher education or educational technology, I wanted to strengthen my knowledge and experience in instructional design.

For my self-directed learning opportunity, I completed the Level 1 Certificate in Microlearning Instructional Design. I selected this program because it allowed me to build on my previous experience while learning new strategies for creating engaging learning experiences for adult learners. It also gave me the opportunity to apply what I learned by creating my own microlearning experience.

Level 1 Certificate in Microlearning Instructional Design

The Level 1 Certificate in Microlearning Instructional Design introduced me to instructional design through the lens of microlearning. Throughout the program, I explored learning theories, the neuroscience of learning, the ADDIE model, microlearning, AI, gamification, learning nudges, and strategies for creating engaging learning experiences.

One of the most valuable parts of the program was being able to apply what I was learning. Throughout the course, I worked toward creating my own Gnowbe learning session. For my final product, I transferred an Adobe learning experience I had previously created into Gnowbe and redesigned it using the microlearning principles from the course.

My Self-Directed Learning Experience

Completing the Level 1 Certificate in Microlearning Instructional Design gave me the opportunity to build on my previous experience while looking at learning through a different lens. In the video below, I reflect on my self-directed learning experience, the lessons I learned, and how I plan to apply this knowledge in my current and future professional practice.

Documentation of Earned Credential

I successfully earned the  Level 1 Certificate in Microlearning Instructional Design  after completing the required learning activities and applying microlearning and instructional design principles through the development of a Gnowbe learning experience.

Currently waiting for certificate to be emailed. All required modules were completed.

Declaration of AI Use

This project was developed with support from AI tools. ChatGPT was used to refine grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and flow. AI did not replace my participation in the self-directed learning experience, analysis, reflection, or completion of the credential.
